My Evaluation For The Year

What have I learnt in the past year?

I have learnt many things this year, but what I really enjoyed learning was how to transfer % into decimals and decimals into fractions. I also really enjoyed learning the different types of art such as cubism. I liked researching about different topics the new Nike Mag Sneakers and researching about Hippos and writing book reviews!

Why was I learning these things?

I was learning about Nike Mag because we wrote about it on the day that Marty McFly travelled to 2015 which is this year! We also learnt about cubism because it was a different type of art to what we usually do and it interprets artists feeling! We learnt about Percentage and Decimals because then we would know how to work out money like if we needed to find the percentage for something.

What am I pleased about?

I am pleased about all the progress I’ve made since last year and I am pleased about how much I’ve learnt this year! I am pleased with my GLOSS test scores and my STAR reading test scores this year! I am also pleased with all the things that we have done this year like making bridges, making marbles and making a shared lunch type of thing using our egg experiments!

How is that learning going to help me?

Well, the math about percentage and decimals and GST is going to help me in life, moneywise! It will help me work out math problems in life like mortgage and bills!

Google Cardboard

What is Google Cardboard?

Google Cardboard is an invention made by google. It is made out of cardboard and was made to make a phone screen specifically an android screen become virtual and 3D. Google Cardboard is a cardboard version of goggles that have lenses which make it seem as if you are in that environment with all its surroundings.

How does it work?

Google Cardboard works like glasses except you hold it up to your eyes. You put your android phone in the slot that opens and is held with the velcro. You open the Google Cardboard app or open a photo on your phone and let the glasses do the rest. If you open the app and try to select,  you  use the magnet on the left side of the glasses, pull it down then release. How? Well google has very intelligent application to add this accessory.  By releasing the magnet on the outside it clicks the magnet on the inside which is at the top.  When a click sound is heard on the phone it thereby letting you select whatever you want.

What is it made out of?

Google Cardboard is well made out of Cardboard. Although there are other parts such as the lens and the magnets and the velcro on top, it is a ready made invention which you fold up and there you have it, your very own Google Cardboard.

Letters to Chocolate Companies

Hi Hershey Company Director,
I absolutely adore your delicious chocolate.  but recently I have explored deeper into the matter of chocolate and found that your company has been connected to the matter of child labour! I found on a youtube video, that your company has used children to gather the cocoa nibs that you put in your products, so therefore you have committed a crime towards children.
I hope you understand my point of view because traffickers are just taking children from all over west Africa and keeping them in the Ivory Coast to gather your cocoa nibs. One other important thing to remember is that we all were once kids too, would you have liked to be taken away from your family and forced to work while a hundred miles away from your home? This youtube video showed me the truth about our chocolate, but I hope that you will change your ways! Here is the link to the video:

Sincerely,
Kaydence

Back To The Future Nike Mag Report

On Wednesday the 21st of October 2015 was “Back to the Future” day. It is a trilogy about Marty McFly and Doctor Brown who travel 30 years into the future. They arrive into the city of Hill Valley CA, to save Marty McFly’s not yet born children. Fans worldwide have long awaited “Back to the Future Day”!

In order to celebrate this special event , the famous brand Nike has released a great model of the well known Nike Mag sneakers that Marty McFly wore. Even though the ones McFly wore in the movie were just props, these new releases are the real deal! These shoes have the ability to tie their own laces and the heels also light up and better yet, they can function without wires or a battery connected to it! How Awesome!

But this isn’t the first time Nike designer Tinker Hatfield created the original design. He has tried to introduce this shoe before, but in 2011 the version failed because although the shoes looked really good and exactly like the ones McFly wore, it had one problem, it didn’t self lace. However this time the company says that it has made the technology which can sense when the foot goes in and the shoe automatically tightens the laces! They also have manual controls just in case you wanna loosen or tighten the grip if desired.

Since the shoes are inspired by Marty McFly, it is only fair that the first pair be delivered to the famous Michael J Fox, the actor who played Marty McFly on October the 21st. The good news is that Nike are planning to release some extra pairs in 2016. The bad news is that these shoes will be limited edition and only available in auction. The Nike company also says that all the profits will go to the Michael J Fox foundation, which will help with the Parkinson's research. But it will probably be way too expensive for most of us. The only hope we have for ordinary Nike shoe buyers is that Nike will make their new shoe copyright so that they can put the shoes into “Ordinary Sneakers”, that we can all afford!

Stingray Report

Stingrays. What do you think when somebody says the word stingray? Do you think of a really vicious sea creature that stings you to death? Or do you think of a flat harmless sea creature that has a stinger that they can use when they suddenly turn against you? Well Stingrays are related to the shark family but otherwise these creatures can be harmless.

Stingrays are flat sea creatures with a long tail and a barb on the end of it. Usually there can be more than one barb on the tail, which the stingrays use for self defence. The stingrays eyes are on the top of it’s head and the nostril and mouth on the bottom. Although their eyes are on the top of their heads, they don’t use their eyes to hunt down and find their food. They use their sense of smell all the time. Stingrays smell for their food and they eat snails, shrimp, clams, small fish and other small creatures around the ocean.

Stingrays do NOT sting unless you stand on them. So if you ever stand on a stingray you better run! A stingray can live up to 15-25 years of age and 16.5 feet which is 5 metres long and can weigh up to 1,320 pounds which is 600KG! Did you know that stingrays don’t have bones but their skeleton is made out of cartilage, a flexible firm kind of tissue that is white, just like their relative, the shark.

The stingray swims almost like a bird, sometimes it flaps its side using them like wings which makes them glide through the water. Or sometimes they move in a swaying kind of ways which allows them to push their way through the water. Stingrays can be useful as well, their rough, tough skin can be used to make shoes, wallets, boots, belts and more. In Japan they use the skin to make an underlayer for their Japanese swords, which is perfect because it holds the sword in place so it doesn’t slip away. In other parts of the world such as Malaysia and Singapore, they eat stingray. They grill it and mix it with special sauces.

Are stingrays harmless l? Or are they just another type of sea creature that gets misjudged? I think that they are perfectly good sea creatures, just don’t step on them!

Robotic Pets and Dream Catcher Proofreading

WALT: Proofread and edit text

Original Text:

robotic pets my opinion

Robotic pets, like cats and dogs are now availlable. But I think they should be banned. If a robotic pet are bought for a yung child it could teech him or her that pets can be ignored or mistreated. whenever the childs mood changes. What would hapen if one day the child recieve a real pet He or she may treat it the same way.

Some robotic pets are used in nursing homes for eldely people who are unable to care for a real pet. I understand that this may give them some cumfort, but a robotic pet cant give you no love like a real animal can. I think nursing homes should has volunters who regularly brings in real pets for a few hours at a time insted.

The only positiv thing about robotic pets is that it might save some animals from being treated cruely by their owners. But the cost of robotic pets is still too high for most peoples budjets.

Child Labour

Screaming, shouting, crying! Children are doing this nearly all the time, you know why? Because children are getting put into Child Labour! Imagine taking an innocent child away from their families without the parents knowing? Or if you were that little kid how would you feel? Well this is how all the children feel because they get kidnapped to go into Child Labour!

What is child labour? Well child labour is when people use children in businesses illegally or when they kidnap children to work for them. Countries such as Philippines, Mexico, Indonesia, Vietnam, and BRIC countries which stands for Brazil, Russia, India and China perform child labour. About 60% of children are taken and put into child labour to fish, hunt and more.

Children in Ecuador are used to get bananas, in the Ivory Coast they are used to get cocoa beans, in Columbia children are used to cut flowers, in Brazil they are used to gather oranges and in Argentina and Bangladesh they are used to get tea. Children who are in Child Labour don’t get a proper education because they are away working.

How are children protected by these smugglers? Children are protected by smugglers because of their human rights, all children and adults have the right to stand up and say no to child labour. People take children into child labour because they want to make the most money they can.

Some families who are in poor countries that have child labour may depend on child labour just to help support them with the basic needs of life. Children as young as five can be put into child labour to the age of fourteen years. UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) tries to help put an end to child labour, their company was founded in 1947 and they try give kids what they need.

Child labour is wrong and it should not happen to innocent children! I think that we should put an end to child labour and help those poor children in need! You can help UNICEF by donating to them to help stop child labour!

Copyright

Copyright:

Copyright is the law that protects people’s original work, if not followed you could face $10,000 and two years in prison.

If you want to use some phrase or want to take some words from a website or even a picture from a book or the internet or even music from youtube you have to put down these things:

  • The name of the person who said it or who originally made it
  • The name of the place where you found it like a book or a quote etc
  • The year it was made or discovered etc
  • The source of where you got it like the website link etc
  • And last but not least the publisher of the photo or quote etc

For example you wouldn't take something that isn't yours, would you? Take it like this if you were in school or at work and you saw something that you really like that belongs to somebody you don’t know you wouldn’t just walk up to it and take it, right? Copyright is a serious matter now in 2015, if you copyright something it is called plagiarism. What is plagiarism? Well plagiarism is when you take somebody’s words or work and try to make it your own, this is copyright and that is why it is illegal! Copyright is ILLEGAL! Don’t perform copyright because it is against the law and it is taking other people’s ideas that they came up with themselves! Copyright is wrong, so if you want to take a picture from the internet or use a song from youtube you must put down the resource of where you got it or if you want to download or use a song from youtube you must contact the owner or the publisher of the video or the owner of the song!

Syrian Exodus

What is happening to Syria? Why are people fleeing from their own country and people? These Syrians are running because their country is in civil war! What is the cause of the civil war? Why can’t other countries don’t even want to help refugees who escape? Their people are fighting their own and taking people away from their families! The Syrian Exodus is happening!  Why? The Isis want power, they want more money, they want more land, they want everything! Is this fair?  Is this right?

Many nations won’t accept these refugees because they are scared that they might be with the ISIS.  Countries in the Western Region might be asked to take in more refugees that escaped Syria from their civil war. The founder of the ISIS is a man named Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the ISIS stands for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. The ISIS started this civil war partly because they believed in a different god. The ISIS are killing up to 170,00 people which are Christians and Shiites. The ISIS will take people who say they believe in the same god, and tell them to kill themselves and others. The ISIS might want to secretly kill people by sneaking into the groups of refugees.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key, is trying to get families all around NZ to pay $81,000 dollars so that we can support the refugees that are trying to come to NZ. Syrian refugees are trying to enter into different countries such Israel, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Bulgaria and more.

3 year old Syrian boy Aylan Kurdi and his older brother and mother died because they all drowned trying to cross the shore away from Syria, Aylan’s father Abdullah was the only one to survive. Five minutes into their boat ride the captain of the boat, the one of which the Kurdi’s were riding on left them on their own because of a big wave, the captain died and so did many other people. The Kurdi family paid the captain over two thousand euros, but they did not have enough money to buy life jackets just in case. The captain left the boat because he was scared.Abdullah stated, “Everything I dreamed of is gone”. The Kurdi’s came from Kobani in Syria where civil war is happening.

Syria, the war, the people, the conflict, why is this happening. What do people want? Why should others die just for their own selfishness? We may never know, but I believe that everybody deserves to live a free and happy life, with their families in a civilized world!
